Men's Skin vs. Women's Skin
A lot of guys are under the impression that women are the only sex that actually needs to take care of their skin. Well, I hate to tell you, but men's skin is really not that different from a woman's. Ok maybe I lied a little, because men actually require more maintenance than our female counterparts. "Huh, did you just say More?" Yes. Us men have more difficult and problematic skin to care for than women do. We subject ourselves to greater environmental stresses, on average, both in the workplace and our recreational lives. This means more damage to our skin. Men also have to shave daily, which is very stressful on your skin and it depletes your natural oil and hydrolitic layer. We also have fattier diets, tend to sweat more, and as testosterone producing men, our faces produce more oil, and also have larger pores. Trust me guys, we are the ones that should be on the side of the vanity with 18 different bottles of cleansers and moisturizers. But, only in recent years have more and more men been starting to wake up and realize that we really do need to take care of our skin. This site, as I am intending it, will try and help you make that mission a little easier. So thank's for stopping by, please bookmark us and check back often, and may your dermal layer always be healthy and clean.
Basic Skin Care For Men
MensSkinCare.info. is a brand new site, and as we have just started building it, there will be a whole lot more coming than what we have now. So please check back in the near future as we put up more content. We plan on making this a discussion type website, along with product reviews and a whole wealth of community driven knowledge on how to properly maintain, cleanse, and groom yourself into that stunning display of well kept manliness you have always wanted to be. Our skin as men is definitely not the same as a woman's, and this means we need to go to different measures when maintaining and cleansing it. So, it is only logical that we should also have our own website dedicated to caring for and discussing our skin. Please, If you have any comments/suggestions/ideas for the site, please go to the contact page and let us know. That's the beauty of building as we go, we can add whatever is necessary.
We are launching with somewhat of a universal introduction into the world of skin care for men. That is, we will be going over the different skin types, which is essential to know if you want to use the correct products and cleaning system. We will teach you how you can determine which type you have, as well as some general suggestions on cleaning, moisturizing, toning, and grooming. Then, you can at least start to formulate a regimen and begin experimenting with what works best for your skin. But before we start with the various skin types, we will discuss some very fundamental guidelines on proper care and preventative maintenance that apply to all men, regardless of skin-type.
First and foremost (I mean it. absolutely first and foremost this is the most important step in keeping your skin healthy) keep yourself protected from, or away from, the sun as whenever possible. The sun, and all of its damaging UV effects, is the single most harmful, yet preventable, stress to our skin. I am not saying be a vampire and never see daylight. But be reasonable. Most men, and women too, don't understand how much they are really damaging their skin when they stay in the sun for hours upon hours. Part of proper skincare is not just products and maintenance, but prevention. I don't think anyone, including men, fancy looking 20 years older than they should. That's what will happen if you spend your life in the sun without protecting your skin. Not only will you look older than you should, but odds are you may need to have your skin removed years down the road because of cancer. Then you won't even have any skin to care for. So men, please stay out of the sun for extended periods of time, or at least use effective sunscreen and clothing protection. If you neglect your skin and don't care for it when you are spending time in the sun, you will regret it. Why exactly our skin get a suntan when we lay out for too long? Well, the only reason that you get a "tan" is because your body is trying to protect itself. In essence, your body is trying to perform it's own skincare by stopping the UV radiation from the sun which is destroying your surface skin cells. To counter this, melanin, a pigment in your skin layer that gives it it's color, is produced in massive quantities. Men's skin produces significantly more than a woman's. The melanin rushes to your skin's surface to try and block out the harmful sunlight from destroying your cells. Big deal, right? Isn't that's what it is for anyway? Not exactly. The problem is that un-natural rates of melanin production cause the creation of free radicals, which in turn run rampant damaging the RNA and DNA in your skin's genetic structure. And since mens skin produces more melanin, that means you should take greater care when in the sun.
What it boils down to is that you may look good for a few days, but your skin is being destroyed as well as the cellular structure. Over time, your skin is actually changed on a genetic level. This process can't be undone, and almost always leads to skincancer at some point. It is easier, smarter, and will keep you looking like a better more attractive man if you take proper caution and care protecting your skin. I know that being "tough males", many guys simply won't wear sunscreen or don't think about this kind of stuff as really mattering. Scroll over the graphic and look at the speed men's skin cancer has been increasing. And btw, tanning beds are just as bad for your skin as the sun.
The same goes for other weather conditions as well. Do not subject your skin, especially sensitve areas such as your face, hands, and feet, to extreme cold or wind. Frostbite is another permanent condition, and cannot be undone once it has occurred. Just stay smart, be sensible, and plan on keeping your skin healthy and with you for a long, long time.
The second easily preventable reason for bad skin is caused by those things with 5 fingers and connected to your arms. Yeah, sitting right there in front of you: your hands. If you have bad skin, or oily complexion, do not touch your face! Many of the men with the worst skin are the one's who just can't seem to keep their own hands off of it. I know its part of our tendency as men to investigate things, and often destroy things, but not your own face and skin. Don't pop pimples, squeeze out blackheads, or pick at blemishes. This is another habit that can cause permanent damage and scars. Men seem to be the ones who really have this problem too, as I have never heard of a female who enjoys popping zits. I have probably known a half dozen males who get a kick out of it though. But honestly, it is amazing how much oil, dirt, and bacteria we transfer onto our faces by constantly touching it with our hands. And worse, we rarely realize when we are doing it, so we really don't think of it as one of the causes if we have bad skin
Wash your hands regularly if you feel like always playing with your face, if it really is just something you can't control. Also, stay away from greases, oils, smoke, and other irritants, whenever possible. I know, oftentimes being a man, we are "required" to be around these things and put into situations or work jobs in areas with large amounts of skin irritants. So if you have no choice, do what you can to minimize the damage. Wear extra clothing, a work mask, or even just keep some wipes with you and make sure to wash your face as soon as you can after being exposed.
And last, find a cleansing routine tailored to your own skin and lifestyle. Men tend to just use whatever facial or skin care products they grab at the store, or sometimes none at all. But don't just settle for the first product or cleanser you find. Really do some work, a little experimenting, and determine a daily regimen that works for you. Because there are literally thousands of options out there specifically designed for men and our different skin types. When you do find a cleansing routine, one that really works, take it seriously. If you find it, FOLLOW IT. Proper skin care takes dedication, especially If you want to look as good and as beautiful as you can. If you want to be a pristine testament to Male grooming and beauty, you have to make sure to find a game plan and stick to it.
